Tree Trimming Service

The difference between trimming and butchering.

Anyone with a chainsaw can hack at a tree. Doing it right β€” so the tree thrives, structures around it stay safe, and the work actually looks good β€” is a different skill set. We've been refining it on Henry County trees for 40 years.

What we trim, and why

  • Crown thinning β€” Selective removal of branches to reduce density. Increases light penetration and air movement, reduces wind resistance during storms.
  • Crown raising β€” Removal of low limbs to clear walkways, driveways, structures, and sight lines.
  • Crown reduction β€” Strategic shortening when a tree has outgrown its space, done properly so the tree remains healthy.
  • Deadwood removal β€” Dead, dying, and diseased branches are removed before they become hazards.
  • Structural pruning β€” Especially valuable on younger trees: shaping for strong structure as they mature.
  • Storm damage cleanup β€” Hanging limbs, broken branches, and post-storm cleanup.

What we don't do

We never "top" trees β€” the practice of cutting major limbs to stubs is one of the most damaging things you can do to a healthy tree. It permanently weakens structure, encourages disease, and the regrowth is often more dangerous than the original branches. If a competitor offers to top your trees, walk away. Crown reduction done by a certified arborist is the right approach when shortening is genuinely needed.

FAQ

Tree trimming questions.

When is the best time to trim trees in Georgia?
Most deciduous trees in Georgia are best trimmed in late winter (January–early March), before spring growth begins. This minimizes stress on the tree and reduces disease risk. That said, dead, hazardous, or storm-damaged limbs can β€” and should β€” be removed any time of year. Live oaks and certain disease-prone species have specific timing windows we'll advise you on.
How often should I have my trees trimmed?
It depends on the species and goals. Healthy mature shade trees typically need professional trimming every 3–5 years for structural pruning. Younger trees benefit from earlier shaping every 2–3 years to develop good form. Trees near structures or power lines may need more frequent attention.
Will trimming hurt my tree?
Done properly, no β€” proper pruning improves tree health and longevity. Done badly (especially 'topping' a tree, which we never do), it can permanently damage a tree, encourage decay, and lead to weak future growth. Our ISA Certified Arborists follow industry best practices that promote tree health, not shortcut techniques.
What is 'topping' and why don't you do it?
'Topping' is the practice of cutting major limbs back to stubs to dramatically shorten a tree. It's one of the most damaging things you can do β€” it stresses the tree, invites decay, and encourages weak regrowth that's actually more dangerous than the original branches. We will never top a tree. We use proper crown reduction techniques when shortening is needed.
Do you handle palm trees?
Yes, though palms are less common in our service area. We trim palms using techniques appropriate for the species β€” never over-trimming, which weakens them.
