Stump Grinding Service

Take that stump off your to-do list.

Stumps are stubborn. They're too tough to dig out without ruining your back, too big to chop, and they sprout new growth, harbor pests, and make mowing miserable. Grinding is the right answer β€” and we make it quick:

  • Grind below grade. Standard depth is 6–8 inches below ground level. Note: the area is not ready to plant grass immediately β€” you'll need to add topsoil and let it settle before re-sodding or seeding.
  • Chips go back in the hole by default. They break down naturally and the area settles over time. Hauling the chips off-site is available as an add-on if you prefer.
  • Multiple stumps, package pricing. Got several to do? Book them together and you'll typically save per-stump.
  • Quick. Most residential stumps grind out in 30–60 minutes per stump.

FAQ

Stump grinding questions.

How deep do you grind stumps?
Standard grinding goes 6–8 inches below grade. Important to know: the area is NOT ready to plant grass right after grinding. The ground will be soft, mounded, and full of wood chips β€” it needs topsoil added and several months of settling time before you can re-sod or seed. If you want to plant a new tree in the exact same spot, we can grind deeper (12+ inches), but the same settling time applies.
What about the wood chips?
By default we put the chips back in the hole. They break down naturally and the ground settles over time. Hauling the chips off-site is an add-on we can quote separately if you prefer.
How much does stump grinding cost?
Pricing depends primarily on stump diameter (measured at ground level), accessibility, and how many stumps. Most single residential stumps in Henry County run from a few hundred dollars. Multiple stumps booked together typically save you money per stump.
How long after a tree is removed should I wait to grind the stump?
There's no waiting period needed β€” many customers schedule removal and grinding together so the area is fully reclaimed in one visit. If you've had a stump for years, that's fine too β€” we grind older stumps regularly.
Will grinding damage my underground utilities or sprinklers?
We always check for obvious utilities before grinding and recommend you mark any private lines (sprinkler systems, invisible fences, propane lines) that may be near the stump. We call 811 for major utilities when needed, but private lines are best marked by you in advance.
